“Very serious and shameful”: thus the regional coordinator of Forza Italia in Campania, Fulvio Martusciello, defines the words spoken last Thursday by Giuseppe Canfora, mayor of Sarno, a town of thirty thousand inhabitants in the province of Salerno, before the Lda concert, Luca D'Alessio.
The reference is to the sentence “As a doctor I recommend a castor oil purge” which Canfora would have generically addressed to those who have long criticized his work, even asking for his resignation after the recent final judgment of a conviction for attempted extortion, a charge of which Canfora has always maintained his innocence.
“The words of a mayor, who has also been convicted, who before Luca D'Alessio's concert calls for purges and castor oil, are disgusting,” says Martusciello. "We expect a unanimous condemnation of phrases that apologise for fascism. Sarno is a national case, therefore we officially request a meeting with the prefect", concludes the leader of the Campanian blues.
Previously, the Forza Italia group in the Sarno City Council had intervened on the matter with a note, according to which “the mayor found nothing better to do than to descend into a sterile and tasteless domestic controversy, making the entire city look very bad.
We are faced with yet another piece of evidence that testifies to the state of confusion into which our mayor has fallen, caught in the grip of the judicial events that have involved him, on the one hand, and in the internal tensions within the majority related to his succession, on the other. The sense of responsibility - the press release concludes - would require a decisive step back to restore the right serenity to the entire territory".
