In recent days the Guardia di Finanza of the Provincial Command of Benevento, within the scope of the institutional services aimed at combating the commercialisation of counterfeit products and unsafe, carried out checks in the provincial capital and in the municipalities of the province, resulting in the seizure of illegal products.
In particular, the military of the Benevento Group, at two commercial activities located in Benevento and Paduli, detected both administrative and criminal irregularities.
The owner of a commercial establishment in Paduli was found guilty of violating the Consumer Code legislation because his establishment was selling approximately three thousand products, including playing cards, hair ties and personal hygiene items, which lacked the legal or product name indications in Italian.
The aforementioned products were seized pursuant to Law 689 of 1981 and the owner was charged with an administrative fine ranging from 516 euros (minimum) to approximately 25.000 euros (maximum fine).
Following an inspection of a commercial establishment in Benevento, it was discovered that packages containing perfumes attributable to well-known trademarks protected by copyright were being sold. In particular, the characters and graphics were similar to the originals and were such as to mislead the consumer regarding the origin, quality and nature of the products. Therefore, the military seized approximately two hundred packages of perfumes and reported the owner of the commercial establishment to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Benevento.
Counterfeiting is a multiplier of illegality, which fuels the underground circuits of work black market, tax evasion, money laundering and organised crime.
Countering the spread of products that do not comply with safety standards means helping to ensure not only effective consumer protection (those who buy counterfeit goods, in fact, primarily put their own health at risk), but also ensuring a competitive market where honest economic operators can benefit from fair competition conditions.
It is represented that the owner of the commercial activity in Benevento reported to the Judicial Authority is, at present, a person under preliminary investigations and therefore presumed innocent until a final sentence.
