All 21 have been identified victims of the tragic accident of the tourist bus that fell from an overpass in Mestre on Tuesday evening.
In addition to the driver, a 40-year-old from Treviso, nine Ukrainian citizens, four Romanians, three Germans, two Portuguese, a Croatian, and a South African were identified yesterday evening.
The Venice Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation: an autopsy of the driver has been ordered and checks will also be carried out on the affected stretch of road. The case has been opened for "road murder multiple against unknown persons”.
“I am truly outraged… someone must explain to me how a technical gap that has always existed, just 1,5 meters wide, used for maintenance, can be the reason why a 13-ton vehicle fell from that overpass.
We acknowledge that the national sport is to pretend to be all engineers and professors and to throw accusations left and right." This was said by the municipal councilor for Transport Renato Boraso, responding to a controversy that indicates a gap in the guardrail as the cause of the tragic accident in Mestre in which 21 people lost their lives.
“The analysis must be done in a serious manner and not with jokes and evaluations – he then added – let's leave it to the technicians, in the meantime I'm evaluating what to do with my lawyers".
