The 52-year-old agricultural entrepreneur Angelo Meninno from Ariano Irpino was transferred yesterday evening to the “Cotugno” in Naples.

The police investigations under the coordination of the Benevento Public Prosecutor's Office are proceeding with the questioning of owners, employees and other customers traced who were in the same restaurant where the couple dined on Saturday evening.
The autopsy ordered by the prosecutor of the Court of Benevento, Marilia Capitanio, will establish whether the death is attributable to botulinum poisoning. The magistrate also ordered the seizure of the restaurant in Ariano Irpino where the couple had dinner. The order was carried out by agents of the local State Police Station.

A niece of the couple reported that during dinner at the pizzeria, Angelo, after having seasoned the pizza with chilli oil, noticed a strange odor, inviting his wife to try a piece.
The meal consumed in the pizzeria on Saturday evening could have been the cause of death of Gerardina Corsano, the 46-year-old who was killed by doctors at the emergency room of the “Frangipane” hospital in Ariano Irpino, in the province of Avellino, they tried in vain to save.
Married for two years, Gerardina and Angelo had felt the first signs of illness late on Saturday evening, after returning home to the district of Fiumarelle, on the border between the municipalities of Ariano Irpino and Flumeri.
They had already gone to the emergency room on Sunday but were discharged
The next day the pains progressively increased and the couple, who were attending a baptism where Gerardina was the godmother, decided to leave the ceremony to be examined in the hospital. After the tests carried out in the Emergency Room they were discharged.
The same thing the next day, Monday, when due to the persistence of the pain, they returned to the hospital again and, from there, were discharged again. During the night between Monday and Tuesday the situation worsened: the emergency hospitalization did not save Gerardina's life, who was hospitalized together with her husband, suffering from spasms, very strong pain and cold sweats.
