We are moving towards the full restoration of the operation of the Manfredi Pier in the Port of Salerno, following the ban on 7 November last due to the collapse of part of the extension of the platform.
A landslide that did not affect the entire extension of the Molo Manfredi, approximately 170 metres long, but a stretch approximately 50 metres long that did not involve the structural elements of the crowning beam.
The consolidation work on part of the extension of the Manfredi Pier of the Port of Salerno will be concluded this afternoon. The Port System Authority of the Central Tyrrhenian Sea thanks the Port Authority of Salerno "for the synergy and collaboration put in place".
The collapse, explains the Adsp, was caused by a weakening of the base of the dock's containment works due to the turbulence generated by the propellers of the ships, cruise ships in this case, which dock at the dock where the Maritime Station of the Port of Salerno is located.
These turbulences, "absolutely natural" assures the Port Authority, have caused over time a lowering of the seabed, from -11 to -15 meters, leading to a weakening of the quay foot which has led to the emptying of the filling material.
After securing the area, restoration work was arranged for the affected section. The front of the quay subject to consolidation is approximately 50 metres long, then extended up to 75 metres to ensure further stability and safety of the restoration work. The work, carried out after the necessary technical checks that allowed an appraisal for the intervention to be drawn up, was carried out between 7 and 10 November.
The restoration consisted of the creation of a basin in dry material, coming from the quarry, appropriately positioned to protect the fixed portion of the sheet piles.
