A sustainability bus, powered by HVO (hydrogenated vegetable oil) biofuel, will depart from Napoli for a tour of fifty Italian cities.
The initiative is promoted by twelve consumer associations and is called “Ricomincio da tRe”. The tour was presented at the National Railway Museum of Pietrarsa, during the inauguration of the sixth edition of “Consumer Expo” e “Sustainability Village”.
The sustainability bus was presented this morning to schools in Pietrarsa, where the first tree was symbolically handed over in exchange for the first kg of plastic collected by students of the Iti “Medi” of San Giorgio a Cremano. The tree, which will be planted on the slopes of Vesuvius by students together with the environmental protection association Prima Aurora, was donated by the actor Alberto Rossi, face of the soap “A Place in the Sun”.
The regional councillor for education attended the ribbon cutting ceremony Lucia Fortini, who underlined the importance of the initiative: “Three days to rethink the actions we do every day that could help the environment.”
Charles DeMasi, president of Adiconsum, added: “It's a tour that starts from Pietrarsa and will make fifty stops throughout Italy: it serves to give a sense of how we can help the environment also from the point of view of sustainable mobility”.
Furio Truzzi, President of Absolute users, stressed the importance of reuse: “We are very behind in reuse and for this reason one of the three 'R's' that we like to remember is that of reuse which means teaching not to throw away small appliances but to repair them”.
The day also saw a moment of discussion in a conference in which he took part Louis Corradi, CEO of Trenitalia, who spoke on the topic of sustainability: "We have trains running on biodiesel in Calabria, there are trains that have done positive tests without major expenses or modifications. In Ionian Calabria we are already using biodiesel which has costs that are not exactly sustainable but we are pushing because the more we increase the volumes of use, the more we make economies of scale and we will be able to reduce the cost of biodiesel".
The sustainability bus tour will start from Naples on December 14th and will visit the main Italian cities. The goal is to raise awareness among young people and adults about the importance of reuse, recycling and sustainability.
