The plan for the vulnerability of buildings in the Phlegraean Fields is a “essentially expeditious, but absolutely reliable reconnaissance” cwhich will concern the municipalities of Bacoli, Pozzuoli and some neighborhoods of Naples.
The affected area, identified in agreement with the Major Risks Commission, is particularly vulnerable to the phenomenon of bradyseism and has approximately 85.000 inhabitants and 16.000 buildings.
The Minister for Civil Protection In the Musumeci, illustrating the second phase of the plan in a meeting in Prefecture in Naples, he explained that thousands of inspections will be carried out by technicians, with the collaboration of the inhabitants.
Completing the plan will require 5-6 months and will provide a clear picture of the public and private building situation in the area.
Evacuation exercises are a task that remains the responsibility of the region and must be “highly motivated”.
“If there is no participation from the people or people participate with distraction, disinterest or apathy, we will absolutely not have achieved the result,” Musumeci explained.
“The context must be very similar to that of the extreme event, with that state of mind” to avoid that if the problem were to occur “fear could lead to assuming incorrect behaviors”.
In the coming weeks, the Campania Region has planned progressive exercises, with one that will simulate “the extreme event” which will be realized after the holidays.
