Italy is gripped by a bipolar time, with a May that looks more like autumn in the North and late summer in the South.
Article Key Points
A second disturbance associated with a cyclone over Normandy is bringing heavy rains to the North and Tuscany. The weather alert remains in effect in the next few hours: heavy rains are expected in Eastern Liguria, Upper Tuscany, Lombardy, Friuli Venezia Giulia and Triveneto.
Risk of supercell storms between Emilia-Romagna, Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia. Scattered thunderstorms also in Tuscany.
African heat in the South, with clouds and temperatures up to 35°C
In the Center-South and on the Major Islands the weather is warm and stable, with temperatures reaching 35°C in Ragusa, 34°C in Foggia and Syracuse, and 30°C in Naples and on the Amalfi Coast. The sky is partly cloudy in the South, with occasional compact clouds.
Friday 17th is expected to improve in the North, with the disappearance of thunderstorms, except on the Alps, Prealps and adjacent plains. Maximum temperatures will reach 37°C in the inland areas of Sicily and the sun will shine again on much of Italy.
Weekend with rain in the South and a truce in the North
Unfortunately, the improvement in the North will only be temporary. During the weekend, rain will return to the South, where it had not fallen in recent days: showers are expected in the Lower Tyrrhenian, in particular between Sicily and Calabria. Rain is expected on Sunday in all the central-southern regions, except Tuscany and northern Marche. In the North, after the bad weather of these hours, a truce is expected before a new worsening between Monday and Tuesday.
Summer, the real one, still seems far away, despite the high temperatures in the South. The weather remains unstable and inclement in much of Italy, with a May that stands out for its anomalous variability.
