EIt was May 6, 2014 and the first season of a title that in just a few years would write some of the most exciting pages in the history of Italian TV, later conquering the world, debuted on Sky: “Gomorra – The Series”.
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of its debut, the protagonists of the record-breaking series are reunited for the special Gomorra – the series: 10 years later. Marco D'Amore (Ciro Di Marzio), Salvatore Esposito (Genny Savastano), Fortunato Cerlino (Don Pietro), Maria Pia Calzone (Donna Imma), Ivana Lotito (Azzurra) and Cristina Donadio (Scianel) – but there will be no shortage of surprises and special appearances – together again to remember and celebrate the adventure they experienced on the set, retracing that journey that changed the rules of Italian seriality, and their lives.
The special will debut on Saturday 25 May (prime time) on Sky Atlantic and streaming on NOW, and will also be available on demand. In addition, from 25 May to 2 June Sky Atlantic +1 becomes Sky Atlantic Gomorra, a channel entirely dedicated to the iconic Sky Original series produced by Sky and Cattleya – part of ITV Studios.
In addition to the marathons of the five seasons of “GOMORRA – The series” and the film “L'immortale” directed by Marco D'amore, a bridge between the fourth and fifth seasons, the pop-up channel (at position 111) will offer special content that has told the behind the scenes of the different seasons of the series born from an idea by Roberto Saviano. Furthermore, from today, exactly 10 years after May 6, 2014, the first episode of Gomorra is available to everyone on the Sky YouTube channel.
58 episodes and a blockbuster movie, for a dark epic that has traveled around the world starting from the streets of the suburbs of Naples, a crossroads of bloody struggles for power, money, love and death. A tale of very dark colors, full of unforgettable characters and twists that will freeze your blood. That has made those suburbs the symbol of all the suburbs of the world.
And it's about to return: Sky and Cattleya, as already announced, are in fact working on a prequel that will tell the story of the criminal rise of the boss Pietro Savastano, from when he was just a street kid to becoming the most important and ruthless boss in Naples. Leonardo Fasoli and Maddalena Ravagli wrote the screenplay.
Much loved in Italy and the most popular Italian series abroad as well (data from Parrot Analytics): Gomorrah has been included twice by the New York Times on the podium of the prestigious ranking of the best series of the year, in 2017 for the authoritative American newspaper it is among the top 5 best international (non-American) productions of the decade.
Since its debut on Sky in 2014, “Gomorrah – The Series” has conquered more than 190 territories worldwide, obtaining numerous public and critical acclaim. A story that is still able to compete at the highest level with the most acclaimed international series, 10 years later, thanks to the undisputed production and writing quality and a cast of extraordinary talents.
