An investigation has been opened by the Public Prosecutor's Office Nocera Inferiore on the death of the 22 year old worker originally from poggiomarino died at lunchtime today in via Pietro Melchiade in Scafati while working on the renovation of a building opposite the town hall.
The carabinieri of Scafati and the territorial department of Nocera carried out inspections and surveys and listened to witnesses and work colleagues in addition to verifying the safety conditions and the regularity of the young victim's work.
The CGIL of Salerno expresses its deepest condolences to the family of the young worker who died tragically in an accident at work in Scafati. “It is not our job to go into the details of the dynamics of the accident,” says the Secretary General Antonio Apadula, “but it is our duty to denounce yet another tragedy that is taking place on a construction site. There is pain and anger.
This boy left home to work and never came back. How many more scenes like this do we have to witness before something changes? It’s a massacre, a continuous mourning.”
Apadula points the finger at the lack of adequate rules and controls in the workplace: "This latest death cannot be dismissed as a tragic accident. Behind it is the complicity of those who remain silent in the face of the absence of precise rules that can eliminate these tragedies. The State must tell us if it exists and which side it is on. We need a concrete commitment to worker safety!"
According to the secretary of the CGIL Fillea, Edward Russian, the data speaks for itself: “There were 1.041 deaths at work in 2023 and since the beginning of this year the trend seems to be even worse. We can no longer accept that every day young lives are broken due to negligence and lack of controls. A radical change of direction is needed to guarantee safety in the workplace and protect the lives of those who work there.”
The CGIL Salerno invites all social and political forces to mobilize to ask the government for immediate and concrete action for safety at work. “Enough massacres!” is the cry of pain and anger that rises from those who are tired of seeing innocent workers die. It is time to act to guarantee a different future, where work is a right and not a risk to life.
