Anouk Aimée, Actress of 'La Dolce Vita', Has Died. She Was 92

The French actress passed away at the age of 92 , protagonist of films that have marked the history of international cinema.

She became famous for her roles in masterpieces such as “” by Federico Fellini and “A Man and a Woman” by Claude Lelouch, Aimée has left an indelible mark on the world cinematic landscape.

Her career began in 1947, when she was only 15 years old, and after some minor appearances, she made her mark thanks to performances under the direction of directors of great value. Among these, André Cayatte with “The Lovers of Verona” (1949) and Alexandre Astruc with “The Scarlet Tent” (1953). Her consecration came in Italy with Federico Fellini, who directed her in “La Dolce Vita” (1960) and “8 1/2” (1963), and in France with Jacques Demy in “Lola – Donna di vita” (1961).

International success came in 1966 with “A Man and a Woman” by Claude Lelouch, where she starred alongside Jean-Louis Trintignant and Pierre Barouh. Memorable performances followed in “The Lost Lover” and “An Evening, a Train” (1968), and in “Race to Four” (1969) by American director George Cukor. Lelouch called her back for “To Live for a Living” (1967), “Who Would I Do It Again?” (1976) and “A Man and a Woman Today” (1986).

After a long absence from the movies Italian, Aimée returned in 1980 with Marco Bellocchio's “Leap into the Void,” a performance that earned her the Prix d'interprétation féminine at the Cannes Film Festival, and in 1981 with Bernardo Bertolucci's “Tragedy of a Ridiculous Man.” In 1994, she played the role of a fashion designer in Robert Altman's “Prêt-à-Porter,” a film that explores the world of fashion.

Her career was crowned in 2003 with the awarding of the Golden Bear for Lifetime Achievement at the Berlin Film Festival. The actress worked again with Claude Lelouch in 2019 in “The Best Years of Our Lives”, the third episode after the great success of “A Man and a Woman” (1966) and “A Man and a Woman Today” (1986), once again alongside Jean-Louis Trintignant.
