Yesterday afternoon the Laceno plateau, a renowned tourist destination especially on weekends, was shaken by a serious crime episode. A couple from Avellino, enjoying a quiet walk in the woods of the mountain resort, were suddenly attacked by a young man armed with a knife.
The man, in an attempt to protect himself and his wife, grabbed a branch and desperately tried to push the assailant away. A dangerous physical fight ensued during which the victim managed to momentarily disarm the assailant. However, the latter managed to retrieve the knife, repeating his threats and forcing the couple to hand over a small sum of money.
The timely call to “112” allowed the Carabinieri of the Operational and Radiomobile Nucleus of the Montella Company, together with those of the Bagnoli Irpino Station, to intervene quickly. The military tracked down the alleged perpetrator, seizing the cutting weapon presumably used in the robbery.
Fortunately, the victim only suffered minor injuries to his arms. After the usual formalities, the money was returned to its rightful owner. The thirty-year-old, originally from Naples and already known to the police, was arrested and is now in the District Prison of Avellino at the disposal of the Judicial Authority. He will have to answer for the crime of robbery aggravated by the use of a cutting weapon.
