A joint operation by the Carabinieri of the Noe of Naples, the Roccadaspide station, the personnel of the ASL veterinary service of Salerno and the Arpa Campania has brought to light a serious violation of environmental regulations at a livestock farm for pig breeding in Roccadaspide, in the province of Salerno.
During the inspection, the company, already seized for the illegal management of liquid waste dumped in the nearby surface water body flowing into the Calore River, was once again accused. The checks revealed the presence of residues of special waste of industrial origin scattered throughout the company's surface area and on neighboring land. The waste found included plastics, fabrics and waste from construction and demolition activities.
Further investigations conducted by the Carabinieri of the Noe of Naples, in collaboration with the soldiers of the XXI Reggimento Genio Guastatori of the Italian Army of Caserta, led to the discovery of large quantities of special waste, including hazardous materials, buried within the property. The waste found includes textile industry waste, plastic residues, bags of solid urban waste, tire scraps and combusted waste, presumably initially packaged in bales.
Arpa Campania is carrying out the characterization of the waste while excavation activities continue to determine the possible compromise of the land in terms of pollution. The excavation operations will continue in the coming days to complete the necessary checks. The owner of the livestock farm has been reported for illegal waste management.
