The head of the Civil Protection of the Campania Region, Italo Giulivo, went to San Felice a Cancello to take stock of the situation with the mayor of the municipality, regarding the damage caused by the bad weather and the search for the missing and keeps the president of the Region constantly informed, Vincent DeLuca.
Immediately afterwards he will also meet the mayors of the other two most affected municipalities, Arienzo, in the province of Caserta and Baiano, in the province of Avellino, who had requested the support of the Region.
In fact, since last night, with the coordination of the Unified Operations Room, 34 teams of volunteers from the Campania Civil Protection are at work, equipped with special vehicles and water pumps to support the communities affected in operations related to the bad weather and, in particular, to clear the streets from the mud.
“Yesterday – said the general director of Civil Protection, Italo Giulivo after evaluating the data from the rain gauges – the disturbance began to affect the Caserta area first, with a downpour on Capua, where about 70 millimetres of rain fell starting at 15.30:XNUMX pm and then passed through Arienzo and Baiano.
So the rains started in the early afternoon with maximum event precipitation of 71,8 mm cumulative recorded in the Caudina Valley. A picture perfectly compatible with the Yellow alert that had been issued by the Functional Center and that was in effect yesterday, which precisely signaled the possibility of sudden but particularly intense thunderstorms.
For this reason we always recommend not to underestimate weather warnings". In the meantime, an initial assessment of the damage has begun based on the reports received from the Municipalities.
