A cyclone associated with cold maritime air, with Arctic components, is about to arrive.
However, the Arctic is not particularly cold during this period, so don't expect extreme conditions like those in polar climates.
However, there will be a significant drop in temperatures, with negative thermal anomalies for the month of September.
In the next few hours, the North East, Eastern Liguria and Tuscany will be hit by bad weather with heavy rains. Friuli Venezia Giulia, Triveneto and Eastern Lombardy will see torrential rains, with significant accumulations also on the Northern Apennines.
In the afternoon and evening, the bad weather will intensify in Lazio, Campania and western Sicily with violent showers. The winds will be very strong, especially from the south-west in Sardinia, Liguria, Tuscany, along the central-northern Apennines, Campania and Lucania, with intense gusts also along the Adriatic.
Friday 13th, the cold will peak, with temperatures also falling in the South. Precipitation will be concentrated in the Middle Adriatic and the South, while the North and the central Tyrrhenian strip will have clearings. Winds will remain strong over much of Italy.
The weather will improve over the weekend with more sunshine, but the Adriatic, Sicily and Calabria will continue to see showers, thunderstorms and strong winds. It will be a real start to autumn.
