Naples.
A walk along the seafront, an unexpected encounter with the city's symbolic mask and an idea that sprouts in the heart of an artist. This is how “Tu sì' 'na cosa grande” was born, the monumental installation by Gaetano Pesce in Piazza Municipio. A work that, like a colorful love letter, tells the story of the artist's deep bond with his hometown.
“Our father would never have thought of offering to Napoli something offensive or obvious. On the contrary, he wanted to donate two hearts. He chose to celebrate the more feminine and colorful side of Pulcinella, dressing it in bright shades, in stark contrast to the traditional white.
It was a very sweet gesture, which highlighted a Naples rich in nuances, open and welcoming, just like the love he felt for her."
The children of Gaetano Pesce, Milena and Jacopo, take us on an emotional journey through their father's memories and intentions. They fondly recall that day when, walking along the seafront, they came across a Pulcinella who seemed to embody the very soul of Naples.
At that moment, the idea of creating a work that celebrated the joy of living and the hospitality of the city took shape in the artist's mind.
But it is not just an idea, but a meticulous project carried out with care and passion. As confirmed by the studio's designers Gaetano Pesce of New York, every detail of the installation, from the bright colors of Pulcinella's dress to the elimination of buttons, was thought and desired by the artist himself. A work that, although innovative and bold, remains faithful to the tradition and spirit of Naples.
The Pulcinella di Pesce, with its two red hearts pierced by an arrow, is a universal symbol of love and passion, but it is also a tribute to the city that saw the artist born and grow. A work that invites us to reflect on the beauty and complexity of the Neapolitan soul, and that reminds us of the importance of celebrating our roots and our identity.
