In recent days, a joint operation was carried out between the Benevento Customs Office and the Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Benevento, during which two roadside fuel distributors were checked to verify the quality of the product marketed and to detect the possible use of additives not permitted by law.
The intervention was carried out by teams composed of officials from the Customs and Monopolies Agency and military personnel from the Benevento Group who were responsible for taking fuel samples which, thanks to the use of the Mobile Laboratory of the Customs and Monopolies Agency of Napoli, they were able to ascertain the chemical qualities of the petroleum products collected.
This first analysis allowed us to detect, in both of the distributors checked, the presence of a flammability not falling within the limits imposed by law which immediately triggered the affixing of seals to 3 fuel tanks containing a total of over 8 thousand liters of diesel and to the dispensers connected to them. The supplementary examination performed on the samples by the Chemical Laboratory of Rome of the Agency and of Customs and Monopolies confirmed the outcome of the first investigations.
Therefore, the three underground tanks, containing a total of over 8 thousand litres of adulterated diesel fuel and the dispensing columns connected to them, were placed under seizure, while the two legal representatives were reported to the Benevento Public Prosecutor's Office and will have to answer for the crimes of possession of products obtained from clandestine manufacturing or unauthorised mixing, and commercial fraud.
