TORRE ANNUNZIATA – Damage, interruption of public service, injuries, illegal possession of weapons and objects capable of causing offence: these are the crimes hypothesized by the Torre Annunziata Prosecutor's Office which has opened a file on the serious accidents that occurred on Sunday evening at the Circumvesuviana stop on Via Nocera.
The train, which was taking the Sorrento Calcio fans back to Sorrento after the victorious away match against Turris in Greek's tower (Serie C), was stormed by a group of troublemakers. According to the reconstruction, several people threw stones, sticks and other blunt objects at and inside the train. Smoke bombs were lit inside the train, causing chaos and panic among the passengers.
The clashes resulted in three injuries, fortunately without serious consequences. However, the economic damage suffered by EAV, the company that manages the railway service, was significant: between direct and indirect costs, the amount was estimated at approximately 200mila eurosThe opening of the investigation was confirmed by the Public Prosecutor of Torre Annunziata, Nunzio Fragliasso, who spoke to the microphones of TGR Campania.
“These are serious crimes and an alarming story. The investigations are ongoing but they promise to be complicated: there is a lack of municipal video surveillance systems and the perpetrators acted with their faces covered. However, we are confident that a breakthrough will soon be achieved.” The episode, which has caused shock and indignation, once again puts the spotlight on the problem of safety in public transport and the need for more effective prevention and control tools to stem episodes of violence linked to sporting events.
