Francesco Pio Valda, a twenty-year-old scion of the well-known Camorra family from the Barra neighborhood, was sentenced to 15 years and 4 months in prison for Camorra association.
Valda is also accused of the murder of Francesco Pio Maimone, the innocent 19-year-old pizza chef from Pianura killed two years ago in front of the Mergellina chalets, at the height of an argument that arose over a stained shoe in which the victim was not involved.
La judgment for the crime on the seafront is expected for next January 30. In the meantime, the abbreviated trial concerning the second strand of the investigation, which concerns the activities of the criminal group presumably led by Valda, has concluded before Judge Leda Rossetti. In total, nine defendants have been convicted.
Accomplices including grandmother and sister also sentenced
Among them, Emmanuel Aprea received a sentence of 4 years and 4 months, Josephine Niglio (Valda's grandmother) was sentenced to 9 years and 2 months, while Josephine Valda (sister of Francesco Pio) at 9 years and 4 months. The defense will now have the opportunity to appeal.
The investigations were coordinated by the public prosecutors of the anti-Camorra pool Antonella Fratello, Claudio Orazio Onorati and Simona Rossi.
