According to the New York Times, South African-born American villain tycoon Elon Musk played a role in Cecilia Sala's release.
The Roman journalist's boyfriend is said to have asked for his help. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, questioned about the affair, was unable to shed any light on the quarrel. The American newspaper specifies that at the time of Meloni's trip to Mar a Lago, Sala's partner (Daniele Ranieri) had already sought Musk's help through an intermediary.
Ranieri, interviewed, claimed to have thought of the Tesla owner, knowing of the latter's excellent relations with Iranian diplomacy and with the new US president Donald Trump. Ranieri announced that on December 29 he had contacted Andrea Stroppa (IT expert and acquaintance of Musk) to solicit the intervention of the magnate born in Pretoria in the Sala affair.
