CAPRI – Inconveniences and protests on the route Naples-Capri, where last Tuesday Dozens of passengers, including the mayor of Capri Paolo Falco, were left stranded due to a ticket management that would favor cruise passengers to the detriment of residents.
The incident has triggered a reaction from the Municipality of Capri, which through the deputy mayor with responsibility for Mobility and Maritime Transport, Roberto Bozzaotre, sent a letter to the General Directorate for Mobility of the Campania Region, the body responsible for regulating maritime racing.
In the note, the deputy mayor denounces the disruptions that occurred on the Naples-Capri route during the 9:30 from Naples and 16:30pm from Capri, when many passengers were unable to purchase boarding tickets. Among them professionals with work commitments, patients with scheduled medical visits and travellers with reservations already made, forced to wait over an hour for the next ride.
Bozzaotre strongly criticizes the boarding management system, underlining how the shipping companies, which establish the timetables in agreement with the Region, do not guarantee equal dignity to the island's residents. For this reason, the Municipality asks to be able to participate directly in the decision-making tables when the number of trips and departure times are set.
Furthermore, the need is reiterated respect the agreement signed in May 2019 between the Campania Region, the Municipalities of Capri and Anacapri and the shipping companies, which provides for the reservation of at least 40 seats for residents up to 15 minutes before departure. A rule which, according to the deputy mayor, it is not applied correctly, causing continuous inconvenience to the island community.
