The Carabinieri Cultural Heritage Protection Unit Napoli they executed a preventive seizure order issued by the investigating judge of Naples at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Naples of the structure located in Poggioreale and called the “366 Graves Cemetery".
The seizure, currently being carried out by unknown individuals, was made necessary by the discovery of a series of illegal construction works that have taken place over time and have been repeated up to the present day, which, through the construction of hundreds of burial niches in the so-called internal perimeter arches, have damaged and in any case seriously altered the identity of the historical monument designed by the architect Ferdinando Fuga.
This initiative is part of a broader overall monitoring effort on sites of historical, artistic and architectural importance in the city of Naples, launched by the Public Prosecutor's Office in cooperation with the Superintendency of Naples and the Department of Architecture of the Federico II University of Naples, which has led in the recent past, among others, to the seizure of Villa Ebe, the Cholera Cemetery, the Bayard Station, and the Canonica di San Biagio dei Taffettanari, an overall monitoring effort that is still underway.
