Salerno – Monsignor Gerardo Pierro, Archbishop Emeritus of Salerno-Campagna-Acerno, a prominent figure in the local Church who led the diocese as metropolitan from 89 to 1992, passed away at the age of 2010.

The news of his death, which occurred after a short illness, was communicated by the Archdiocese of Salerno, leaving deep sorrow in the religious and civil community.

In an official message, the current archbishop, Monsignor Andrea Bellandi, expressed his affectionate memory: “Together with his family, the clergy and the entire Church of Salerno, we commemorate with gratitude this illustrious son of our land, accompanying him with prayers of suffrage”.

A tribute that underlines the special bond that Pierro had established with his diocese during the long years of service.

To pay homage to his memory, the funeral chapel has been set up at the Archiepiscopal Seminary of Pontecagnano, where many will be able to say goodbye to him. The funeral will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 16:14 p.m., in the Cathedral of Salerno. The body will arrive at the cathedral at XNUMX:XNUMX p.m., giving way to the solemn rite that will celebrate the life and legacy of Monsignor Pierro, a pastor loved and respected by the community.
