Buenos Aires – The legal war over Diego Armando Maradona’s legacy continues unabated.
While the trial to ascertain any medical responsibility in his death is underway in San Isidro, a new judicial chapter opens in Buenos Aires. Dalma and Gianinna Maradona have sued two aunts, Rita and Claudia Norma Maradona, accusing them of misappropriating trademarks linked to their father.
The story dates back to March 15, 2021, just four months after the death of the Pibe de Oro. At the center of the dispute is Matías Morla, Maradona's former lawyer and manager, who after his death would have transferred the management of Sattvica, the company that holds the rights to the former champion's brands, to Diego's sisters.
The summons to court
The first hearing before Judge María Rita Acosta is scheduled for April 8. The proceedings are expected to be concluded within a month.
In the past, the Supreme Court had deemed both the accusations and the request for dismissal due to insufficient evidence to be “unfounded”. However, Dalma and Gianinna’s lawyers seem to have gathered new elements to relaunch the legal battle and finally shed light on an inheritance that is still disputed today.
Maradona's official heirs are five: in addition to Dalma and Gianinna, there are Diego Jr, born from the relationship with Cristiana Sinagra, Jana and the youngest, Diego Fernando. But the patrimonial issue, between image rights and registered trademarks, continues to generate tensions and disputes within the family of the legendary number 10.
