To celebrate the 80th anniversary of the birth of Mario Musella, iconic singer of the Showmen, a new version of the classic “Un'ora sola ti vorrei” has been released. The song is available from April 1st on all digital platforms with the aim of paying homage to Musella's artistic career, to whom Pino Daniele and Enzo Avitabile have dedicated musical works.
New Interpretation and Production
The reinterpretation of the song was entrusted to Sabba (Salvatore Lampitelli), with Sasà Mendoza on Rhodes piano and synth, also responsible for the arrangements. The musical base features Fredy Malfi on drums, Dario Franco on bass, Corrado Paonessa on guitar and Enzo Anastasio on tenor sax. The production, curated by SuonidelSud, involves Claudio Niola, Antonio De Guglielmo and Renato De Santis, while the recording and mixing were done by Pietro De Asmundis at RR Sound.
The Success of “Un'ora sola ti vorrei”
The song, originally written in 1938 by Umberto Bertini and Paola Marchetti, achieved considerable success with the interpretation of the Showmen at the Cantagiro of 1968, winning in all the stages of the event. The popularity achieved led RCA Italiana to publish the first LP album of the Showmen, enriched by other successful songs.
Legacy of Mario Musella
Mario Musella, who died prematurely in 1979 from liver poisoning, left an indelible mark on the music scene. To honor his memory, SuonidelSud has organized commemorative events and published works dedicated to his career, including albums and books. In Naples, Musella's memory is kept alive through the naming of public spaces and a collective commitment to preserving his musical legacy.

I listened to the new version of Un'ora sola ti vorrei and I have to say it's very interesting. The production and arrangements are different but still very enjoyable. Musella deserves this tribute, even if I always prefer the original.
