By May 15, a temporary bridge will be installed at the port of Pozzuoli to allow vehicles to disembark from ferries, which is increasingly complicated due to the raising of the docks caused by bradyseism.
This is what emerged from the technical table convened yesterday by the prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, to address the critical issues of the Phlegraean port, a nerve center for connections with the islands of the Gulf. The temporary solution - which will allow the transit of vehicles while waiting for structural interventions - represents only the first phase of a broader plan for the redevelopment and safety of the port infrastructure.
The overall plan in fact includes the installation of floating and driveway docks, which will be built at an expense of approximately 800mila euros, and the leveling of the seabed of the ferry dock, for which an investment of more than million euros. This last intervention will also involve a preventive war clearance, necessary to ascertain the possible presence of unexploded ordnance dating back to the Second World War, as required by security protocols.
The mayors of Pozzuoli, Bacoli, Ischia, Casamicciola Terme, Serrara Fontana and Lacco Ameno, as well as representatives of the administrations of Forio and Barano d'Ischia, participated in the round table, defined as "propositive and proactive" by the prefect of Bari himself. They all expressed full appreciation for the promptness with which the emergency is being addressed and for the institutional collaboration that has been established between the various levels of government involved.
“The synergy between local administrations, maritime authorities, the Campania Region and the extraordinary commissioner Soccodato is concrete and productive”, declared the prefect. “The roadmap of the interventions has been shared with all the actors: within the next week the feasibility project for the installation of the pontoons – temporary and permanent – will be drawn up and will be submitted to a new technical table at the Port Authority of Pozzuoli, with the participation of the shipping companies and the consortium of haulers”.
THEAdmiral Angora, head of the competent maritime authority, expressed deep appreciation for the speed and effectiveness of the comparison table, ensuring "The maximum collaboration to the analysis and evaluation of the proposed technical solutions”. The Campania Region, identified by the extraordinary commissioner for the implementation of public interventions in the Campi Flegrei area as implementing subject, will coordinate the entire process, including the financial aspects related to finding the approximately 2 million euro total needed to complete the project.
The port of Pozzuoli, an essential crossroads for passenger and freight traffic to and from the islands, is therefore about to face a decisive transition phase, in which respecting the timing and maintaining cooperation between institutions will be essential, in order to restore full efficiency and safety to one of the most strategic infrastructures in the Gulf of Naples.

The installation of the temporary bridge at the port of Pozzuoli is a solution that seems necessary for the transport problems but I do not know if it is the right answer. There should be more clarity on the times and the expected costs.
