Giovanni Esposito nominated for the Nastro d'Argento with “Nero”: a debut as a protagonist

During a robbery gone wrong, Black accidentally kills a gas station attendant. Shocked, he discovers that the man has miraculously survived, an event attributed to the “Madonna dei detersivi,” a statue in the gas station attendant’s shop. A policeman, Abate, becomes convinced that the miraculous power is actually in Nero’s hands and asks him to save his daughter from a coma. Nero succeeds, but each healing costs him one of his five senses, leading him to a painful moral dilemma.

Awards and criticism

The candidacy of Black at the Nastri d'Argento in the category "Best Directorial Debut" is a significant recognition for Esposito, who has been able to combine his acting experience with a mature and original directorial vision. The film has been appreciated for its ability to mix realism and symbolism, offering a profound reflection on redemption and personal sacrifice.

The Silver Ribbons award ceremony will be held on June 16th in Rome, and Black It is one of the seven titles competing for the award for best debut, together with works such as infinity by Umberto Contarello and The house of glances by Luca Zingaretti .
