There is an air that vibrates and is charged with electricity in Naples, and it is not just because of the May heat. It is the tension of an entire city that is holding its breath on the eve of Napoli-Cagliari, the match that could deliver the fourth Scudetto to the blue team. And giving voice to this expectation is the mayor Gaetano Manfredi, who describes a people in trepidation and a team that has the duty to face the moment with lucidity and heart.
“It's true, the anticipation is electric and can be felt everywhere”, said Manfredi, "but on the field you need head and heart. Supporting Napoli is an infinite, visceral passion, a true identification between city and team. Successes do not come by chance, they are the result of planning and competence".
The mayor also proudly underlined the emotional involvement of the fans, who fill the Maradona every Sunday, transforming it into a national spectacle: “I like to see Neapolitans let themselves go, dress up as coaches, live football with passion. The Maradona is always full, and it is a symbol of this collective participation”.
But next to the passion, there is also the vision for the future. Manfredi confirmed that he was introduced to the president De Laurentiis a masterplan for the redevelopment of the Maradona stadium. “Naples deserves a modern and functional facility. The Municipality is ready to do its part, both economically and administratively”he concluded.
