Another victim on the “mile of death” of Torrione, in Salerno. Oscar D'Antonio, a 78-year-old pensioner, lost his life after two days of agony at Ruggi, following a serious accident that occurred Thursday afternoon on Lungomare Marconi.
His Piaggio Beverly scooter was hit by a Fiat Panda, driven by a thirty-year-old now under investigation for road homicide.
The accident, at the intersection with Via Amato, is under the scrutiny of the local police, coordinated by Commander Rosario Battipaglia. According to initial reconstructions, the car, exiting Via Amato, hit the scooter head-on, perhaps due to a failure to give way.
The devastating impact trapped D'Antonio under the vehicle, freed only thanks to the firefighters. Hospitalized in intensive care, the elderly man did not make it.

The drama rekindles the alarm about the danger of Lungomare Marconi, the scene of often fatal accidents. Only in January, on the same stretch, Fidalma Mei, a 78-year-old hit near the Aurora beach, died.
Despite the ongoing work on a new smart traffic light and the remaking of the signs, the situation remains critical. The Prosecutor's Office is investigating the dynamics, using any images from the cameras. D'Antonio's funeral will be held in the coming days, while the neighborhood mourns and asks for justice.
