UA homemade explosive device was detonated during the night in Ostia, in front of the “Di Napoli” boxing gym in via delle Azzorre.
The explosion occurred around 3:00 a.m. and damaged the shutter of the business, some parked cars and the facade of the building where the gym is located. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The Fire Department of the Ostia detachment, the bomb squad of the State Police, the 118 personnel and the Local Police of Rome Capital intervened on the spot. Investigations have begun to trace those responsible and clarify the origin of the gesture, which at the moment remains to be ascertained.
The former champion of boxing Gianni Di Napoli was also interviewed by investigators for summary information, to whom he explained that he could not explain the reasons for the gesture and that he had never received threats or extortionate requests.
Also documenting the devastation was the actor and comedian Enzo Salvi, a resident of the area, who posted two stories on his Instagram profile. “We in Ostia wake up to bombs,” he wrote. “Cars gutted, all the windows of the building exploded. People terrified.”
The images released by Salvi show the damage caused by the explosion, including the gym shutter bearing the writing “Di Napoli” and debris scattered on the street.
