The episode had arisen from a trivial altercation over traffic issues involving Caiazzo's ex-wife. The victims - a man and his son - had asked for clarification, but the situation had degenerated into an assault with stab wounds inflicted on the man in vital areas, fortunately he survived.
The accusation dismissed: no attempted mafia murder
The First Section of the Court of Naples North has acquitted Caiazzo of the most serious charge of attempted murder aggravated by the mafia method and futile motives, ignoring the request of the Prosecutor's Office for 15 years and 4 months of imprisonment.
Conviction only for injuries to the son
The young man was however found responsible for the injuries inflicted on the victim's son, who was punched in the face during the fight. The sentence therefore represents a significant reduction compared to the initial charges.
The other armed individual, accused of physically inflicting the stab wounds, remains on trial. Caiazzo's defense spoke of "justice having run its course," while the Prosecutor's Office is considering possible appeals.
