A roar in the night, a hasty escape and a failed coup. In Grottaminarda, in the province of Avellino, a commando composed of at least three people blew up the Postamat of the post office in via Valle in an attempt to steal the money contained in the dispenser.
The action, which took place around three in the morning, caused extensive damage to the entire structure but did not produce the desired effect: the criminals were forced to abandon the attack and flee empty-handed. The explosion woke up the entire neighborhood, with residents immediately alerting the police.
The plan, which seemed planned in detail, was interrupted by the speed of the intervention and the chaos generated by the explosion. The thieves disappeared on board a car that was later found abandoned near the toll booth of the A16 Naples-Canosa, a sign that the group had planned a second car driven by an accomplice to continue the escape.
The police have started the investigation by analyzing the images from the surveillance cameras and the surveys at the crime scene. The damage to the post office has yet to be quantified precisely, but one thing is certain: the robbery did not go as planned.
