Procida – A motorboat of about 8 meters went completely up in flames off the coast of Procida, but all 12 passengers on board were rescued.
The vessel, anchored near the port of Marina Grande, caught fire for reasons yet to be ascertained, generating a thick column of black smoke visible even from the mainland.
The intervention of the emergency services
The flames devoured the vessel in a few minutes, while some nearby pleasure boats approached to provide assistance. Shortly after, the patrol boat CP 807 of the Port Authority of Ischia intervened, coordinating the operations with the Maritime Directorate of Naples, taking one of the shipwrecked people on board. The other 11 were recovered by other private boats present in the area.
A vehicle is also expected on site. Fire fighters, but by now the motorboat, completely destroyed, risks sinking at any moment.
No injuries, but fear among passengers
Despite the sudden blaze, no one was injured. The causes of the fire will now be determined by the competent authorities. In the meantime, the initial panic has turned into relief, thanks to the timely rescue and the collaboration of the boaters present in the area.
