Caivano – Environmental inspections have begun following the fire that broke out yesterday afternoon in the municipality of Caivano, near the Strada Statale 7 Bis. At the request of the Prefecture of Naples, ARPA Campania intervened as part of the Rescue Coordination Center's activities to verify the possible presence of pollutants dispersed in the atmosphere.
During the inspection, technicians from the Naples ARPA Department identified several fires affecting multiple plots of land, including an area already under judicial seizure. Various types of waste, including scraps of end-of-life vehicles, were found to be deposited within the site.
In coordination with the Fire Department, which is engaged in extinguishing operations, a specific device has been activated to monitor potentially hazardous substances such as dioxins, furans, and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in the air. Analysis is currently underway, and the results will be released as soon as they are available.
Claudia Pecoraro, Campania Region's Environment Councillor, also addressed the incident, thanking the workers involved in the emergency response and emphasizing the importance of promptly initiating inspections to protect public health and the environment.
The Campania Region has assured that it will continue to monitor the situation in coordination with the Prefecture of Naples, ARPA Campania, and other competent bodies, based on the results of ongoing investigations.
