A 'graveyard' of stolen and burned cars discovered in Castel Volturno; an illegal landfill site seized.

A veritable open-air graveyard of stolen cars, stripped of their spare parts and then set on fire. This is what emerged during a patrol conducted by Caserta Provincial Police officers in the rural areas of Castel Volturno.

The operation, coordinated by Commander Biagio Chiariello, is part of the provincial administration's policy, led by President Anacleto Colombiano, which calls for intensified surveillance and control activities, with a particular focus on preventing and combating environmental crimes and protecting the land.

A thousand square meters transformed into an illegal landfill

Officers located a plot of land measuring approximately 1.000 square meters, owned by the General Land Reclamation Consortium of the Lower Volturno Basin, which had been transformed into a veritable illegal landfill. The area contained the wreckage of numerous cars, some of which had been stolen, stripped of their parts, and subsequently burned.

Through analysis of residual traces and technical surveys carried out on the still identifiable chassis, investigators have already managed to trace the identities of some of the car owners, residents of the province of Naples. The owners have been notified that their vehicles have been identified, even though, in several cases, all that remains of the cars are charred metal and the remains of the remaining parts.

Judicial seizure and start of cleanup

The area has been placed under judicial seizure and entrusted to the General Land Reclamation Consortium of the Lower Volturno Basin, which will now initiate the required procedures for the site's remediation and environmental restoration. The Provincial Police Headquarters has simultaneously forwarded a detailed criminal report to the Public Prosecutor's Office.

Investigations are underway to identify those responsible and define the various illegal conducts, which could concern, among other things, the management of an illegal landfill, the uncontrolled abandonment of special waste and crimes connected to the origin of the vehicles.
