A bloody night in Secondigliano: a killer strikes in front of a bar, injuring a 36-year-old in the leg.

Naples – The nightlife in Scampia once again speaks the language of guns. This time, outside a bar, in one of the most popular spots in the Secondigliano crossroads. Shortly before 2:30 a.m., two men, arriving on a motorcycle, approached Cristiano Basile, 36, and opened fire.

A bullet struck the man in the leg. The two then quickly fled, disappearing without a trace.

Flying squad officers from the Secondigliano police station and forensic scientists responded to the scene. The findings, CCTV footage, and witness statements could prove crucial in reconstructing the exact circumstances of the incident and, above all, in identifying the two members of the commando.

"They wanted to rob me": a version that isn't entirely convincing

Basile told investigators he was the victim of a robbery. According to his version, after attacking him, the two attackers stole several hundred euros.

A reconstruction that is naturally being verified by investigators and which, at the moment, cannot be considered definitive.

However, the nature of the attack, the presence of two armed men, and above all the victim's criminal record have led investigators to maintain all hypotheses, including that of a settling of scores.

This doesn't mean the Camorra is necessarily behind the injury. But it does mean that, in an area where several armed incidents have occurred in recent months and where criminal activity is under intense investigation, no avenue can be ruled out a priori.

A sequence of ambushes since spring

The most disturbing fact is the sequence of episodes.

On April 10, on Corso Secondigliano, a 49-year-old man, Salvatore Marino, was shot twice in the abdomen. The investigation subsequently led to a breakthrough: investigators believed the shooter was his brother-in-law, Savio Margarita, who turned himself in and confessed. The incident was linked to a possible vendetta following the seizure of weapons and drugs from a scrapyard in San Pietro a Patierno.

A few days later, on April 17, another particularly serious incident occurred in the Siberia neighborhood of Marianella. Vincenzo Lo Russo, 33, a relative of the leaders of the Lo Russo-Capitoni clan, was attacked and shot five times, sustaining wounds to his arms, legs, and back. The DDA's investigation subsequently led to three precautionary measures: investigators believe the attack was based on an old conflict that had developed in prison.

The second ambush on Francesco Musto

On April 25, Francesco Musto, then 18, was injured on Via Labriola in Scampia. The young man was shot in the leg.

From the first hours, investigators considered the hypothesis of a simple random attack unconvincing. The family connection to organized crime figures in the northern area drew their attention, and they also looked at the conflicts among young people involved in the area's criminal circles.

And it is precisely this episode that makes what happened a few days ago even more significant.

September 8: Musto still in the crosshairs

In fact, on the night between September 7th and 8th, Francesco Musto himself came under fire again.

On Via Don Pino Puglisi, in Scampia, two men on a scooter approached the 19-year-old while he was with some friends. One of them pulled out a gun and fired. The bullet grazed him in the chest. Musto managed to reach the CTO by his own means and is not in danger of dying.

The fact that the young man had already been injured in April makes the second incident particularly sensitive. Investigators are evaluating whether there is a connection between the two attacks and whether the sequence could be part of a broader tension between groups in the northern area. The Anti-Mafia Directorate is investigating the circles of the new recruits in Scampia and Secondigliano.

August: the "stesa" during the White Night

What had seemed like a period of relative respite had already been interrupted by another extremely significant episode in August.

On August 8, during Secondigliano's White Night, while hundreds of people were out in the streets and many shops were still open, several gunshots were fired in the Berlingieri district.

There were no injuries, but three shell casings were recovered from the asphalt. The prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, ordered increased security and convened the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety.

This is far from a secondary factor: shooting in the street while the neighborhood is full of families and children means consciously accepting the risk of hitting people who are not involved in the dispute.

The thread that links the episodes isn't necessarily a single feud. Rather, it's a territory where old criminal alliances coexist, new blood, drug dealing hubs, personal conflicts that can quickly escalate into armed violence, and groups seeking new avenues of power.

The attack on Lo Russo revealed an internal conflict within the "Capitoni" clan. The attack on Musto highlighted the younger generations and their family ties to criminal circles. The Marino shooting, however, had, according to the investigative reconstruction, a personal and family-related motive connected to criminal activities. The August shooting, however, demonstrated how weapons can once again be used in open public spaces.

They are different stories, but they have a common denominator: the ease with which weapons reappear on the streets of the northern area.

The central question, therefore, isn't just who fired the shots last night in front of Bar California. It's whether the incidents of the last five months are truly separate or whether they represent pieces of a larger mosaic.

The presence of young people with family ties to historic criminal groups, the release of members of old clans, the internal tensions documented by recent judicial proceedings, and the availability of weapons are elements that deserve particular attention.

The risk is one we've seen many times in Naples' criminal history: that the first signs are considered isolated incidents, until the sum of them becomes a true emergency.

In Scampia and Secondigliano today, the problem isn't just counting the wounded. It's understanding who's shooting, why they're shooting, and, above all, whether a new criminal organization is emerging behind the individual raids.

Because when guns start talking again with this frequency, the distance between a failed ambush and a murder can become dramatically thin.
