Massive travel scam sparks anger and protests from victims. A Quality Coupon is coming for reputable agencies.

A crowded and tense public meeting brought together hundreds of families victimized by the massive travel agency scam in Pozzuoli last night. The initiative featured residents defrauded by "Viaggiare con Averno" in Arco Felice and the Portici agency, who were determined to coordinate legal action to recover their money and seek justice.

Hundreds of people found themselves without reservations—often discovered only hours before departure—after having paid thousands of euros for honeymoons, cruises, and summer vacations. Months or years of savings were up in smoke.

The meeting was attended by Francesco Emilio Borrelli, MP for the Green Left Alliance, Cesare Foà, president of ADV Unite and regional president of AIDIT Campania, along with a delegation of regular travel agents and the victims' lawyers, Antonio Borrelli and Francesco Petruzzi.

The "Quality Coupon" against illegal operators

Among the main innovations that emerged during the discussions was the launch of the "Quality Coupon," a concrete measure promoted by trade associations to protect consumers. This distinctive sign will be displayed outside duly registered and authorized agencies, allowing customers to immediately distinguish professional operators from unlicensed ones.

The reactions

"The meeting revealed a truly unacceptable outpouring of pain, anger, and indignation," commented MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli. "Hundreds of people have seen their sacrifices go up in smoke: young people who lost their honeymoons and families defrauded on the eve of their departure. It's shameful when you consider the conflict with serious entrepreneurs who often go to great lengths, or even make personal sacrifices, to comply with the rules and keep their businesses open."

Borrelli then expressed his deep gratitude to Cesare Foà and the honest travel agents who chose to stand up for the victims, urging swift action from the authorities: "We ask the judiciary and law enforcement to expedite their investigations and reconstruct where the money went. Those who defrauded must return every cent and be held accountable for their actions before the law. No one can build their wealth on people's sacrifices and go unpunished."
