Portici: Man hit and killed by train, Naples-Salerno line stalled

Tragedy struck this early afternoon along the Naples-Salerno railway line. A man was struck and killed by a passing train near the Portici station. The extremely violent impact left the victim, whose identity has not yet been released, with no escape.

Emergency responders, railway police officers, and law enforcement quickly arrived on the scene to conduct the usual checks and begin an investigation, coordinated by the judicial authorities. At this time, the exact circumstances of the incident remain under investigation: the open hypotheses range from a tragic accident during a reckless crossing of the tracks to a deliberate act.

There were severe disruptions to mobility and regional transport. Train service was completely halted between the Naples San Giovanni Barra and Torre del Greco stations.

To limit disruption to passengers, Rete Ferroviaria Italiana has set up an extraordinary replacement bus service that travels between the stations of Naples San Giovanni and Torre Annunziata Centrale, while long-distance and regional trains are experiencing significant delays, diversions, and cancellations.
