Naples - Three robberies, all targeting elderly women, and a particularly insidious modus operandi. This is what the Carabinieri of the Scampia station are currently alleging against a 35-year-old man already known to law enforcement. He was arrested following an investigation that began with the victims' complaints and the analysis of surveillance video.

The first incident dates back to August 27th. A woman born in 1943 is about to enter the entrance hall of her apartment building. She walks slowly, limps, and appears disoriented. The 35-year-old arrives on a scooter, wearing a helmet and neck warmer to make it harder to recognize her.

He approaches the woman, threatens her, and snatches her purse. The elderly woman falls to the ground and requires medical attention. She is given a five-day prognosis for the bruises she sustained.

The trap in the elevator

The second episode, reconstructed also through CCTV footage, is said to have occurred on September 2nd and presents an even more disturbing dynamic.

The victim, a 73-year-old woman, had just returned home with her groceries. The alleged robber approached her and, seemingly courteously, opened the door to the building, letting her go first.

Not only that, he relieves her of one of the shopping bags and walks her to the elevator.

According to the Carabinieri's reconstruction, the attack took place in the elevator cabin. The woman entered the elevator, and the man followed her. He then grabbed a gun and pointed it at her, taking advantage of the cabin's limited space and lack of an escape route.

The terrified elderly woman was forced to hand over her bag. In the commotion, she fell and hit her head and back on the floor. Due to her injuries, she was given a seven-day prognosis.

The 35-year-old then walked away with the stolen goods.

The scooter's identikit and license plate

The victims' reports and, above all, the images from the surveillance cameras allowed the Carabinieri to gradually reconstruct the profile of the alleged perpetrator.

Investigators acquired the man's identikit and were also able to trace the license plate of the vehicle used for travel and escapes.

At that point, a surveillance operation was launched in the Parco dei Ciliegi area, on Via Fratelli Cervi, an area that the 35-year-old appears to frequent regularly and which investigators believe is connected to his movements.

The stop and the toy gun

During the stakeout, the soldiers came across the suspect's car and decided to intervene.

They found a toy gun with a red cap and €1.145 in cash on the 35-year-old.

But the investigations lead the Carabinieri to believe that, shortly before, the man may have committed a third robbery.

Another elderly woman in the crosshairs

The scene is said to have taken place in block B of Via Fratelli Cervi 108.

The 35-year-old man enters the elevator with a 63-year-old woman. When they reach the third floor, he tries to exit the elevator but blocks the door leading to the shared landing.

Then, according to the investigative reconstruction, he pointed a gun at the woman and attempted to snatch her wedding ring. The attempt failed, but the man managed to steal a bracelet and a pair of gold earrings before fleeing.

Tattoos and clothing are decisive

The description provided by the victim and, above all, the images from the surveillance cameras allow the Carabinieri to link this episode to the 35-year-old.

What is crucial are some details of the clothing and, in particular, the tattoos, which were clearly captured by the cameras.

The evidence collected has therefore allowed investigators to attribute, at the current stage of the investigation, three robberies committed against elderly women to the 35-year-old.

The arrested man was transferred to prison, where he remains at the disposal of the judicial authorities pending the validation hearing.
