Capri's tourist season is marked by violence. This morning, yet another brawl broke out between tourists outside a bar in the Marina Grande harbor area. The situation quickly escalated: the combatants engaged in a no-holds-barred brawl, using chairs as clubs and exchanging kicks and punches before the astonished eyes of residents and vacationers. The immediate aftermath was hours of sheer terror and panic among those present, in one of the busiest areas of the island.

The citizens' cry of alarm

The incident did not go unnoticed. Several eyewitnesses captured the incident on their smartphones, sending the images to Green-Left Alliance MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli. In their reports, the citizens launched a heartfelt appeal:

"We urgently need controls on Capri and increased security. At night, only one patrol patrols the entire island, and that's not good because it increases incidents of violence."

The political thrust: "Strengthen controls."

The reaction of the parliamentarian was very harsh, and he commented with concern on the images that arrived on his desk:
"Seeing people come to fight each other with chairs, kicks, and punches in broad daylight, turning an area frequented by residents and tourists into a theater of violence, is unacceptable."

Borrelli then emphasized the need to improve the image and liveability of one of the pearls of Campania tourism:

Capri deserves a level of security commensurate with its importance. If we're told there's only one patrol for the entire island at night, it's clear that the system needs to be strengthened. We're asking the Prefecture and law enforcement to consider stepping up patrols at the most sensitive locations and times.
