The start of the trial involving Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has been postponed until December 2nd, as part of the investigation by the Rome Prosecutor's Office into alleged capital gains linked to certain transfer transactions.

The decision was made by the judges of the Ninth Collegiate Section of the Rome Court after examining the preliminary issues raised by the defense. The panel ordered the hearing to be adjourned pending the resolution of certain procedural aspects relating to the sports club's position.

The club's position has been removed

The magistrates have in fact decided to dismiss the football club's position, referring the case back to the preliminary hearing judge. This technical decision, according to what emerged in court, was necessary to address some procedural issues before proceeding with the proceedings.

In the meantime, the Court has ordered the suspension of the statute of limitations and adjourned the trial until December, when the positions of all the defendants could be reconvened.

In addition to De Laurentiis, Andrea Chiavelli, a long-time collaborator and manager close to the Azzurri patron, also figures in the proceedings.

The operations under scrutiny

The investigation by the Rome Prosecutor's Office concerns alleged fictitious capital gains linked to two market transactions considered central by investigators.

The first concerns the transfer of defender Kostas Manolas from AS Roma to SSC Napoli in the summer of 2019.

The second operation under examination is the purchase of striker Victor Osimhen in 2020 from LOSC Lille.

According to the prosecution, some financial assessments included in the financial statements for the 2019, 2020, and 2021 seasons were incorrect. The allegations will now be the subject of the upcoming trial.

It seems to me that the matter is very complicated and it's not clear what's happening: the trial was postponed to December 2nd and the company was dissolved, but names like Aurelio De Laurentiis, Manolas, and Osimhen remain cited. The fictitious capital gains seem like a tangle of numbers and documents that the judges will have to clarify point by point.
