The precision with which the criminals moved within the apartment on Via Orazio suggests detailed knowledge not only of the layout, but also of the residents' habits. Investigators from the Flying Squad are verifying recent contact information between the family and staff, speculating that the gang may have benefited from a "mole." The target was clear: the 26-carat diamond, a unique piece whose location was known to very few.

Identikit of a specialized gang

This was no impromptu raid. The method used—the possible use of narcotics and the physical removal of the cameras' digital video recorders (DVRs)—describes the profile of a professional commando. They knew exactly where the image server was located and how to neutralize the protection systems without triggering immediate alerts.

The manhunt and the road crossings

While the results of the victims' toxicology tests are awaited, the manhunt is extending beyond the neighborhood. Police are analyzing the transit of all suspicious vehicles recorded by urban security cameras and license plate readers installed along the main access points to Posillipo and on escape routes to the ring road. The goal is to identify the support vehicle used to get away after the robbery.

A meticulously planned operation struck the Posillipo neighborhood, one of Naples' most exclusive areas, over the weekend. The criminals targeted the home of a well-known retired textile entrepreneur on Via Orazio. According to initial reports, the heist netted a total loot of nearly half a million euros, leaving investigators faced with a highly complex technical case.

The “treasure” and the 26-carat diamond

The most significant item in the stolen property is a 26-carat diamond, whose preliminary market value has been estimated at around €300.000. In addition to the precious gem, the thieves also stole cash and several family jewels. The authorities are still assessing the damage, pending official appraisals of the assets declared in the report by the victims.

The narcotics hypothesis and the inexplicable silence

The most disturbing aspect of the story concerns the dynamics of the break-in. The businessman, his wife, and a domestic worker were present in the apartment when the intruders broke in. All three stated they had not noticed anything until they awoke, strongly suspecting they had been drugged by substances released into the air or by contact. The Naples Prosecutor's Office has already ordered targeted toxicology tests to confirm or deny this hypothesis, a factor that would transform the theft into a far more serious crime.

Professionals in action: blacked-out cameras

The investigation, conducted by the Posillipo Police Station and the Flying Squad led by Mario Grassia, points to a group of professionals. The theft of the security camera recording device (DVR) confirms the high profile of the gang: the criminals removed the digital media to eliminate any video evidence of their presence, making identification more difficult.

The Naples Prosecutor's Office is now coordinating efforts to cross-reference images from public surveillance cameras along Via Orazio and surrounding streets to trace the gang's escape route, presumably composed of at least three experienced members. Attention remains high regarding the possible presence of insiders who may have provided crucial details on the house's layout and the location of the valuables.

It seems strange to me that these criminals managed to get in so easily, and it almost seems like there was a mole in the house, but I'm not so sure. The story of the 26-carat diamond is crazy. The police should be checking all traffic and cameras, but what if they removed the DVRs like fans? Let's hope the prosecutor's office provides answers soon.
