There's renewed concern for Stefano Addeo, a teacher from the Nola area, who made headlines after the incident that broke on social media in 2025. He's been admitted to intensive care in Naples after another alleged act of self-harm.

Since yesterday evening, he has been in serious condition: he is intubated in intensive care and kept in a medically induced coma. According to sources, in the fall, he suffered fractured vertebrae, a ruptured liver, and a ruptured large abdominal blood vessel system, including the portal vein and inferior vena cava, which carry blood from the viscera and liver to the right side of the heart. A CT scan also revealed a head injury with a small intracranial effusion, which is not serious. The prognosis is guarded.

The 2025 precedent and the public apology

The professor's name emerged a year ago after a post circulating against Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's underage daughter. Following that incident, the teacher issued a public apology, along with the initiation of disciplinary proceedings by the Campania Regional School Office.

In early June 2025, Addeo had already received medical attention after an initial act of self-harm and was admitted to the Nola hospital. A few days later, he was placed on precautionary suspension from teaching, pending the resolution of the disciplinary process.

Deepening

The extreme act of Stefano Addeo, a professor known for his stance against Giorgia Meloni, rekindles attention on an often overlooked issue: self-harm and its deep roots. Behind such a tragic act lie not only immediate motivations, but often hidden psychological fragility, social pressure, and a sense of isolation that can affect anyone, regardless of political or social context. Understanding these dynamics is crucial to overcoming stigma and promoting a culture of prevention and support. At a time when polarization and public conflict seem to amplify personal tensions, reflecting on mental health and well-being becomes a collective duty. This study aims to offer awareness tools to recognize signs of distress and foster open and respectful dialogue.

Deepening

Self-harm is a sign of profound distress that often remains invisible until it manifests in extreme acts. The recent case of Stefano Addeo, a teacher from the Nola area hospitalized in serious condition after a suicide attempt, brings to light a growing phenomenon in our country, linked to complex social and psychological dynamics. Stress, isolation, media pressure, and difficulty asking for help contribute to bringing this hidden suffering to the surface. Understanding the roots of self-harm is crucial to promoting a more attentive and inclusive mental health culture, capable of recognizing warning signs and offering support before it's too late. It's an issue that concerns everyone, because behind every act there is a person seeking listening and hope.
