Naples – A sudden, violent attack, and, at least for now, completely inexplicable. Overnight, the Secondigliano Carabinieri station , located on Vico II Censi, became the target of a 33-year-old man, already known to law enforcement, who attempted to break into the barracks using cobblestones and rocks.

The raid was caught on camera

The sequence of events was faithfully reconstructed using video surveillance footage from the area. In the middle of the night, the 33-year-old man appeared at the entrance to the building. Instead of using the intercom to call for assistance or report a crime, the man pulled out a heavy cobblestone and began repeatedly and violently hitting the glass door.

The rain of stones and the damage

Despite the bulletproof glass's resistance to the violent impact, the attacker refused to give up. Immediately after giving up on the cobblestones, he picked up several large rocks from the ground and began hurling them at the entire façade of the building. The rocks targeted the windows, the perimeter walls, and again the main door, in a crescendo of tension that woke the officers inside.

The military raid and the arrest

The Carabinieri intervened quickly, exiting the barracks and detaining the man before the situation could escalate further or result in injury to passersby or the officers themselves. The 33-year-old resisted, but was restrained and arrested on charges of aggravated criminal damage and resisting a public officer.

At the end of the raid, the damage to property included two visibly chipped windows and a damaged main door. It remains to be seen what drove the man to commit such a crime: investigations are ongoing to shed light on what currently appears to be an inexplicable act of pure madness.

Archive research online shows that the Carabinieri barracks in Secondigliano (vico II Censi) and, in general, the police forces in the neighborhood, have unfortunately been at the center of incidents of tension and crime in the past that were far more serious than the isolated stone throwing by a single individual.

Machine gun fire (Kalashnikov) against the barracks (February 2016):
This is the most serious and notorious incident to have hit the exact same Carabinieri station in Secondigliano. During the night, a group of firefighters riding scooters fired 27 Kalashnikov rounds at the barracks building.

The bullets pierced the exterior walls, penetrating the interior of the offices and hitting several service vehicles. The DDA's investigation at the time pursued two Camorra-related leads: a state response by the Vanella Grassi clan (following restrictive measures against the minor children of a fugitive boss), or a demonstration by the Mallo gang to assert their control over the territory.

The Chase into the Stalker's Barracks (2023):
Another unusual incident occurred at the same station, involving a woman who, chased and threatened by her ex-husband (a 52-year-old), sought refuge by running into the Carabinieri station. The man, in a rage, didn't stop at her uniform: he first punched the rear window of her car and then arrogantly entered the station, continuing to insult her and threaten her life in front of the officers, who immediately arrested him.
