Nola – A tragic accident or gross negligence that could have turned tragic. A little girl, just one year and three months old, has been hospitalized since Friday evening at the Santobono Pediatric Hospital in Naples after taking drugs at home.

The little girl, originally from Nola, is fortunately not in danger of dying, but the incident has immediately triggered a judicial investigation to shed full light on parental responsibility.

The rush to the hospital and the drug test

It all began on Friday evening, when the little girl's mother rushed to the emergency room at Santa Maria della Pietà Hospital in Nola. The little girl was showing symptoms of a sudden and violent illness, which she initially mistook for an epileptic seizure.

However, the doctors' intuition and the subsequent toxicological tests, coordinated by the director of the emergency room Enzo Tipo, brought to light a much more disturbing reality: the narcotic test had given a positive result.

The child had come into contact—through ingestion or inhalation—with substances such as cocaine or marijuana. Her immediate transfer to Santobono Hospital was ordered. The little girl's condition is now stable and under constant monitoring; doctors expect her discharge within a few days.

The investigations and the house search

On the judicial front, the Nola Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation, formally without any suspects at this time, entrusting the on-site investigation to the State Police. Officers from the Vomero police station have already conducted an emergency search of the family's home in Nola.

The search of the rooms was negative: no traces of drugs were found inside the apartment. At the time of the search, only the mother was present; the child's father was not immediately located.

The father's role and the investigators' hypothesis

The man's whereabouts are now the focus of the investigation. The little girl's father is already known to law enforcement, having previously been reported to the Prefecture as a drug user. Investigators will question him shortly to reconstruct the hours leading up to his daughter's illness.

The investigators' most credible reconstruction of the case centers on the theory of a dramatic domestic accident: the little girl, moving around the house, found drugs carelessly left within her reach, either putting them in her mouth or inhaling them during a moment of her mother's inevitable distraction. It remains unclear who brought the drugs into the home and why they were not kept securely.

I read the news and am very worried about the little girl, but fortunately she seems to be doing better. I don't understand how this could have happened; perhaps it was a domestic accident, but the parents should have taken better care and monitored her. We hope the justice system will clarify everything soon.
