Clash over change of management of Report
Rome – An urgent appeal for reinstatement as author and host of Report is being sought by Sigfrido Ranucci's lawyers, who filed an urgent appeal today with the Rome Court, Labor Division, challenging RAI's decision of August 28th that removed him.
"The Judge is not being asked to intervene in RAI's editorial decisions. He is being asked to determine whether it is legitimate to remove the author and host of the public service's main investigative program based on generic statements, without stating a single concrete fact against him, after weeks of public political pressure aimed precisely at achieving that removal," explains lawyer Roberto De Vita.
The lawyers are seeking the revocation of the order and the journalist's immediate reinstatement as writer and host of Report. The request was made as a precautionary measure, also in light of two imminent deadlines: September 27, the deadline by which Ranucci must choose one of the three positions offered by RAI, and November 8, the scheduled start date of the new season of Report.
The defense, composed of labor lawyers Franco Focareta, Franco Scarpelli, and Stefano Rossi, coordinated by Roberto De Vita from the legal team at Devitalaw, contests the reasons given by RAI for the removal.
According to the appeal, expressions such as "objective situation of incompatibility," "continuous pressure," and "perceptions of opacity, co-mingling, and interference" were not accompanied by any specific facts attributable to Ranucci or any supporting documentation.
