Tragedy in Cassino: Katia Adinolfi, the Nocera health worker burned in the explosion, also dies.

Frosinone – Katia Caterina Adinolfi, 40, a social worker at the Santa Scolastica Hospital in Cassino, died overnight at the Burns Center of the Sant'Eugenio Hospital in Rome. The woman, originally from Nocera Superiore, suffered severe burns—about 70 percent of her body, including facial injuries—in the explosion on August 24 in an attic on Via Guado Santa Maria.

She had continued to fight for sixteen days. Doctors had attempted every treatment, including delicate surgery. During the night, her condition worsened until she died. With her, the death toll in the incident rises to two: on August 29th, her partner, Carmine Sirica, 54, a nurse originally from San Valentino Torio, had died. He was hospitalized in the same ward with burns covering 90 percent of his body.

The explosion, around 8:45 a.m., gutted the top-floor apartment and caused part of the roof to collapse. The two paramedics, who lived in the building, were extracted alive from the rubble and airlifted to Rome after receiving initial treatment in Cassino. Among the theories under consideration is a gas leak, possibly triggered by a stove being ignited. Technical investigations are still ongoing.

The Cassino Public Prosecutor's Office, led by Chief Prosecutor Carlo Fucci, has opened a case against unknown persons: first for serious injury, then for manslaughter after Sirica's death. The circumstances, condition of the facility, and any responsibilities remain unclear.
