Important anti-Camorra operation by the Carabinieri in the Barra neighborhood.
The military in fact arrested one of the leaders of the Cuccaro clan: he had a rifle in his house along with a lot of ammunition.
The Carabinieri of the Poggioreale operational unit operated and arrested Salvatore Cuccaro, a 53-year-old from the Barra neighborhood who was already known to the police and believed to be close to the Aprea-Cuccaro Clan, for possession of a clandestine weapon aggravated by membership in a mafia association.
During a house search, the military found in a cellar belonging to the house a 12-gauge sawn-off shotgun and 257 cartridges of various calibers. Cuccaro was arrested and locked up in the Poggioreale prison.
Salvatore Cuccaro is the cousin of the brothers Angelo, Luigi and Michele, the head of the clan that has always had criminal control of part of the eastern area of Naples. In particular, their headquarters is in Barra. They control drug trafficking but the most profitable business is that related to extortion. Salvatore Cuccaro, recently released from prison, was arrested in November of the year for the same crime committed today: he had guns and cartridges of different calibers at home. He is also the namesake of one of the Cuccaro brothers, killed in 1996 in front of a barracks.
