"Punishments should aim at the re-education of the convicted person, but my husband understood many years ago that he was wrong. What he has done during these 22 years demonstrates this amply. Putting him in prison now means punishing an honest person and his family."
A speaking is Leonide Marziale, the wife of Giuseppe Marziale, locked up in prison a few months ago for crimes committed in 1999 and for which he had been found guilty. He must serve a sentence of 11 years, 11 months and 16 days of imprisonment for mafia association and drug dealing, even if in the meantime he has completely changed "skin". The woman, who had already launched a video appeal for her husband's case to be taken into consideration, is keen to show all the employment letters that Giuseppe has signed over the years, even the identification cards that were given to him.
All to testify that Giuseppe Marziale has had nothing to do with crime for decades. "He made mistakes when he was 26 but then we got married. He became another person, I gave him three children and during all these years he always worked honestly". Giuseppe Marziale was a member of a Camorra group in the Spanish Quarters of Naples and on behalf of that Camorra he committed crimes for which he was convicted. For many years he has no longer been that man but a loving husband and father who has now fallen back into the darkness from which he had already freed himself a long time ago.
