On Friday 28 May, the 60th anniversary of the founding of Amnesty International, at 18 pm the artistic project “Jonathan Livingston Evolution” by the Primo Levi Institute of Badia Polesine (Rovigo) will be presented with a show of music, singing and dance, dedicated to human rights.

The project is the result of two years of work carried out by one hundred students from the Institute thanks to the support of the Mibac and SIAE, as part of the program “For those who create” and in collaboration with the Association Voci per la Libertà. The Primo Levi of Badia Polesine was the only institute in the province of Rovigo to win this national call, which finances projects aimed at strengthening education and cultural promotion in Italian public schools. In this case, the students' attention was focused on understanding, enjoying and raising awareness of music as a tool for enhancing friendship between peoples and intercultural dialogue.

Consisting of five training modules and several moments of cultural promotion, the project brought students closer to music by making them the protagonists, promoters and creators of some songs, shows and performances.

The work has given birth to a CD with four songs: an unreleased song, “Tutta questa libertà”, and three covers: “Knockin' On Heaven's Door” by Bob Dylan, “Oronero” by Giorgia (written by Emanuel Lo Iacono), “Zombie” by the Cranberries (written by Dolores O'Riordan). The CD is accompanied by the video clip, made by Andrea Artosi, of “Tutta questa libertà”, the song composed by the students:

Thanks to the competition they won, the boys went to Sermide to Marco Malavasi's Sonic Design recording studio to record the songs: a unique experience that made them real artists. Assisted by the teachers of the Lab 105 music school and coordinated by the Voci per la Libertà association, in addition to proposing covers, the boys actually composed a real unreleased song, learning the basics of how to write a text, a melody, a chord progression, a rhythm for a song.

“Doing good while having fun”: this is the motto that accompanies the boys whose satisfaction doubles, thinking that their commitment and sacrifice are not only for pure fun, but can help people less fortunate than them. “Jonathan Livingston Evolution” is in fact dedicated to Amnesty International and the values promoted in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

On Friday, May 28, the live show, entitled “Happy Birthday Amnesty,” will be streamed on the Facebook page and YouTube channels of the Institute and Voci per la Libertà. The event will feature live performances by students and speeches by the Headmaster, Amnesty International Italia, and the Voci per la Libertà association.

The day was also crowned by the initiative: “Let's make rights grow”, the planting of a tree in the park of the Institute of Badia Polesine dedicated to the 60 years of Amnesty International. In this year so important for the history of the most important global association for the defense of human rights, the tree symbolizes well all the road made and still to be made and if the planet needs many trees to survive, the world needs many active people to become a better place to live.

The project will also have space during the 24th edition of the festival “Voci per la Libertà – Una canzone per Amnesty”, scheduled from 23 to 25 July in Rosolina Mare (Rovigo), with the semi-finals and the final of the Amnesty Award in the emerging section and with the award ceremony for Negramaro in the big section.

Giovanni Stefani – president of the Voci per la Libertà Association – said: “This project also fits perfectly into our artistic program that has always focused on the promotion of human rights through art and especially music. Jonathan Livingston is the flagship of our extracurricular activities and in this year dedicated to the anniversary of Amnesty International it takes on a further meaning that we will also bring to the July festival in Rosolina Mare”.

“This is one of the Institute’s longest-running projects,” recalls Headmaster Amos Golinelli, “and over the years it has never lost its strong educational value. In the last two years, the project has evolved, representing a further opportunity for our students to cultivate their talents, to discover their potential, in compliance with our mission which has always placed our students in their entirety at the center.”
